Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan message for the international community

This is Anies Baswedan, speaking for the international community living in Jakarta or visiting our city. As I've been reminding all of us that during this challenging time, we do not need to be panicked. But on the other hand, let's not be lenient either. We need to be fully alert and never undermine the scale, the magnitude, and the potential risks of the situation. We all need to work together in a discipline way to halt the spread of COVID-19, and I believe that we all are talking responsibility on this endeavor.

It's been proven that social distancing measures are vital and effective in halting the spread of COVID-19, and Jakarta needs to adopt this approach. We need everyone to collaborate. That's why, I'd like to ask you to pay attention to this following 7 steps:

  1. Do not go out of the house unless it's urgent and important. As much as possible, hold remote meetings. Please take this very seriously for all family members and colleagues. Save yourself, save your family, and this means save a lot of people.
  2. Avoid crowded places
  3. Postpone all large events. Even charity events. When it's not really urgent, please do postpone!
  4. With regards to religious activities, I would advise everyone to pray from home for the time being.
  5. For wedding receptions, if it must take place then there must be a protocol to check body temperature of all arriving guests before entering the venue and maintain isolation room for any people showing symptoms and seek medical help immediately. Make sure that hand sanitizers are available at the entrance and readily available everywhere. And remember, do not handshake.
  6. Parents need to remind their children not to travel. No schools or college activities does not mean it's holiday. It means everyone needs to be home because the goal of no schools is to make sure that everyone is able to be at home.
  7. For all, I encourage you not to travel outside Jakarta or abroad.

We need all to adopt social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you suspect yourself or your loved ones showing COVID-19 symptoms, please contact our call center immediately. The number is 112. Or you can also reach us through Whatsapp at 0813 8837 6955. Our medical team would be ready to respond quickly.

The fight against COVID-19 needs serious efforts from all of us. Everyone has a role to play, and there is no better place, no better time to show that we in Jakarta have the capacity, the resources, and ultimately, the resolve to weather the situation together.

I strongly believe, we will prevail. Thank you and may His blessing be upon us always.
